University of Missouri Health Care is taking a groundbreaking approach to patient care

University of Missouri Health Care is committed to providing exceptional health care to our patients, now and in the future. To accomplish that, we are undertaking a significant upgrading and expansion of our facilities. From renovating Children’s Hospital to building a new surgery tower at University Hospital, the expansion projects at our facilities all share one goal: to provide our patients with world-class care in a convenient and comfortable environment.

The MU campus began work on the infrastructure to support University of Missouri Health Care campus building projects on July 2, 2007. Demolition of the University Terrace apartments to prepare the area for an expanded utility substation, surface parking and the planned Orthopaedic Institute also began in July and is under way. When you visit us, please take advantage of our free valet parking in front of University Hospital and University Physicians Medical Building.

Construction status as of June 2008:

A section of Hospital Drive immediately east of its intersection with Monk Drive will be closed during utility construction. The construction, which will extend underground utilities to the location of the planned Missouri Orthopaedic Institute, is planned from Wednesday, June 11, to Monday, August 11.

In January 2008, a shuttle service was implemented to transport employees from CG-1 parking lot at Hospital Drive and College Avenue to University Hospital. For more information and a map of the route, please see the employees section below.

Patients and visitors

We encourage patients and visitors to use our free valet parking service. Simply pull into the circle drive in front of the University Physicians Medical Building or the entrance to University Hospital, and a parking attendant will take your keys and park your car. When you are ready to leave, the parking attendant will bring your car to you.

Patients and visitors can also park at:

• Patient parking garage, between University Hospital and University Physicians Medical Building
• Surface parking lot (HSC-2S), directly across the street from University Physicians Medical Building
• Surface parking lot (HSC-2N), next to University Physicians Medical Building

Employees

A shuttle to transport employees from CG-1 parking lot at Hospital Drive and College Avenue to University Hospital began its route in January 2008

The route is run from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays year-round, except for on the health system’s paid holidays. The route will be run at least five times per hour, approximately every 10 minutes. To assure pedestrians’ safety, the shuttle will pick up passengers only at designated bus stops.

During the temporary closing of a portion of Hospital Drive, the shuttle will run a temporary route. It will pick up and drop off employees in the CG-1 parking lot and drop off and pick up employees near the intersection of Hitt Street and Hospital Drive, at the entrances to the University Hospital patient garage and the UPMB entrance tunnel.
