“Fit for Life” Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention Service

Fit for Life at University Hospital is a supervised inpatient and outpatient hospital-based service that combines assessment, evaluation, exercise, and education support for heart, lung and vascular disease. Specialty population exercise treatment programs are offered for Primary and Secondary Prevention, Heart Failure, Revascularization, Peripheral Arterial Disease, Diabetes and Pulmonary Disease.
Participants in the program are better able to return to work or hobbies and often experience an improvement in quality of life. Sessions are monitored and are conducted by a professional staff including registered nurses, respiratory therapists, dieticians and exercise specialists. Fit for Life has received national accreditation from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Fit for Life is located in GL-20 on the ground floor of University Hospital.
Services
Cardiac Rehabilitation: Evaluation, education and exercise are three phases of this program, which is targeted for patients recovering from a heart problem, such as a heart attack or heart surgery. Extended health, fitness and risk reduction programs are also available.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation: Exercise training, behavioral and educational services are designed to help patients control their shortness of breath and to function independently. Breathing training, relaxation techniques and smoking cessation strategies are also part of the service.
Peripheral Artery Disease Rehabilitation: This service is designed to relieve cardiovascular or leg pain by exercise and strength training. Evaluation, cardiovascular screening, exercise training and education are used for patients diagnosed with blockage in their leg arteries.
University of Missouri Health Care employee wellness: Unsurpassed exercise is available for health system employees at $20/month.
Phase I -- An inpatient service for early assessment, activity progression and discharge planning and referral.
Phase II -- An outpatient service after hospital discharge for monitored, supervised exercise, education and behavior modification by a registered nurse case manager.
Phase III -- An ouptatient service for wellness maintenance that is supervised by a registered nurse case manager. 28 sessions for $78.00
