Mason Eye Institute
Welcome to the Mason Eye Institute at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Our continued vision is to become a premier ophthalmology and visual sciences institute. This is based upon a fundamental commitment to the highest standards of vision research, ophthalmic patient care, compassion and education, endeavoring continually to develop nationally respected faculty and staff. The Mason Eye Institute is dedicated to providing the highest quality education in ophthalmology. We have provided leadership that sets standards for excellence in ophthalmology since 1959.
The central Mason Eye Clinic is a full-service ophthalmic clinic located within the Mason Eye Institute. The clinic features 17 equipped refracting lanes, an optical shop, a contact lens suite, a low vision suite, a minor surgery facility, photography/ angiography area with darkroom, laser suite, and diagnostic procedures such as corneal topography, specular microscopy, ultrasonography, and visual field testing. More than 17,000 patients are seen in the clinic each year.
We also have an off-site clinic, Eye Institute East, located at 404 Portland Street, Columbia, Missouri, behind the Columbia Regional Hospital. This clinic features six equipped refracting lanes, a laser suite, visual field testing, and a visual electrophysiology diagnostic laboratory. Approximately 3,000 patients are seen yearly at Eye Institute East.
Our newest clinic, University Physicians Moberly Eye Institute, is located at 715 N. Morley Street, Moberly, Missouri. Patients are seen at MEI on the second and fourth Tuedsay of each month by Dr. Timothy McGarity.
And finally, cornea specialist, Frank G. Rieger, III, MD, sees a number of patients who live and work in Boonville, Missouri, during a Friday clinic at the Cooper County Memorial Hospital. Please see contact information above.
University Optical is a full-service optical shop located in the Mason Eye Institute in the lobby of the University Hospital.
University Optical features a complete line of fashion frames for eyeglasses and sunglasses, safety and sports eyewear, frames for babies and children, an on-site finishing lab, expertise in frame repair, contact lenses, and low vision aids.
University Optical hours are Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
